SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Judah Mintz scored 25 points, JJ Starling had 23 and Syracuse stunned No. 7 North Carolina 86-79 on Tuesday night.
Mintz had 16 points in the second half and Starling scored 13 after halftime for the Orange (16-9, 7-7 Atlantic Coast Conference), who took control after UNC’s RJ Davis made a layup that put the Tar Heels ahead 65-64 with 7:16 to go.
Starling responded with a desperation 3-pointer that banked in, and the Orange were on their way.
Davis led UNC (19-6, 11-3) with 19 points. Cormac Ryan had 18, and Armando Bacot and Harrison Ingram had 14 apiece.
NO. 4 MARQUETTE 78, BUTLER 73
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Tyler Kolek scored 27 points, including a key 3-pointer with 90 seconds left, and Oso Ighodaro had 17 points and 10 rebounds as Marquette beat Butler.
Kolek also had seven rebounds and five assists as the Golden Eagles (19-5, 10-3 Big East) salvaged a split in the season series with their eighth consecutive win.
Finley Bizjack scored a career-high 19 points while fueling a late charge to get Butler (16-9, 7-7) within 64-62 with four minutes to go. But the Bulldogs couldn’t tie it or take the lead. Jahmyl Telford had 12 points, six assists and six rebounds.
NO. 10 IOWA STATE 68, CINCINNATI 59
CINCINNATI (AP) — Curtis Jones and Tamin Lipsey each scored 15 points, and No. 10 Iowa State forced 25 turnovers to beat Cincinnati.
The Cyclones (19-5, 8-3 Big 12) had 12 steals and turned the Bearcats’ turnovers into 26 points in the schools’ first meeting since 2016. Cincinnati is new to the Big 12 this season.
Jizzle James had 16 points and Simas Lukosius scored 15 for Cincinnati (15-9, 4-7), which has lost five of seven. Dan Skillings Jr. had 13 points and 11 rebounds.
NO. 12 BAYLOR 79, NO. 25 OKLAHOMA 62
WACO, Texas (AP) — Jayden Nunn scored a season-high 27 points, including three 3-pointers in a go-ahead run before halftime, and Baylor beat Oklahoma.
Nunn finished 8-of-12 shooting, including 6 of 9 on 3s, and all five starters scored in double figures for the Bears (18-6, 7-4 Big 12). Jalen Bridges added 14 points, while 7-foot freshman Yves Missi had 12. RayJ Dennis had 11 points and eight assists, and Ja’Kobe Walter had 10 points and six rebounds.
Rivaldo Soares scored 17 points on 5-of-6 shooting to lead Oklahoma (18-7, 6-6) before exiting the game due to injury with 4:58 left. He had to be helped off the court after his foot twisted awkwardly on a drive.
It was the last scheduled meeting between the teams as Big 12 foes.
NO. 14 ILLINOIS 97, MICHIGAN 68
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — Terrence Shannon Jr. scored 31 points on 11-of-15 shooting as Illinois cruised past Michigan.
Coleman Hawkins had 17 points and five assists for the Illini (18-6, 9-4 Big Ten), Marcus Domask had 13 points and Quincy Guerrier had 10 points and seven rebounds. Most of Illinois’ starters were on the bench for the final 9:29.
Terrance Williams III had 17 points and Tarris Reed Jr. and Olivier Nkamhoua scored 13 each for the Wolverines (8-17, 3-11), who have lost 12 of 14 and are last in the Big Ten.
NO. 16 DAYTON 75, DUQUESNE 59
DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — DaRon Holmes II had 24 points and 11 rebounds as Dayton bounced back from an ugly loss to beat Duquesne.
Down by four with 6:17 left in the game, the Flyers went on a 22-2 run to put away the Dukes.
Nate Santos had 15 points and eight rebounds for Dayton (20-4, 10-2 Atlantic 10).
Jimmy Clark III had 14 points and Jake DiMichele added 12 for Duquesne (14-10, 4-7), which had won five of six.
NO. 17 CREIGHTON 94, GEORGETOWN 72
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Baylor Scheierman recorded Creighton’s first triple-double since 1985, Trey Alexander made his first five 3-pointers and finished with 26 points, and the Bluejays rolled past Georgetown.
The Bluejays (17-8, 9-5) swept the season series and took sole possession of third place in the Big East. Georgetown (8-16, 1-12) lost its ninth straight overall and sixth in a row to Creighton.
Scheierman had 15 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists for the first triple-double in program history to include assists. Benoit Benjamin had three triple-doubles for Creighton in the mid-1980s, all with blocks.
Supreme Cook led the Hoyas with 19 points.
NO. 19 BYU 90, UCF 88
PROVO, Utah (AP) — Jaxson Robinson scored 21 points off the bench and BYU outlasted UCF.
Noah Waterman added 17 points and nine rebounds as the Cougars (18-6, 6-5 Big 12) won for the fourth time in five games. Trevin Knell also scored 17 and Dallin Hall had 10 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Darius Johnson led the Knights with 20 points. Jaylin Sellers added 17 and Nils Machowski chipped in with 11. UCF (13-10, 4-7) trailed the entire way but made four 3-pointers in the final minute to keep it close. Robinson made eight free throws in the last 60 seconds.
NO. 20 WISCONSIN 62, OHIO STATE 54
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Steven Crowl had 16 points and 10 rebounds and AJ Storr added 14 points and 12 rebounds as Wisconsin beat Ohio State to snap a four-game skid.
Tyler Wahl added 10 points and seven rebounds for Wisconsin (17-8, 9-5 Big Ten).
Bruce Thornton scored 18 points for Ohio State (14-11, 4-10).
PITTSBURGH 74, NO. 21 VIRGINIA 63
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Blake Hinson scored 27 points and made five of Pittsburgh’s 14 3-pointers, and the surging Panthers ended Virginia’s nation’s-best 23-game home winning streak.
Hinson had 18 points after halftime and Jaland Lowe finished with 12 for the Panthers (16-8, 7-6 Atlantic Coast Conference), who won their fourth straight and sixth of seven, continuing their push into NCAA Tournament consideration.
Reece Beekman led Virginia (19-6, 10-4) with 19 points, but the Cavaliers’ normally stout defense couldn’t slow Pittsburgh. Virginia’s eight-game winning streak also ended, along with its 48-game string of holding ACC opponents under 70 points at home.
NO. 22 KENTUCKY 75, MISSISSIPPI 63
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Ugonna Onyenso blocked a Rupp Arena-record 10 shots, Antonio Reeves scored 15 points and Kentucky beat Mississippi to end a three-game home losing streak.
The Wildcats (17-7, 7-4 Southeastern Conference) shot 52% to snap their longest skid at Rupp, which opened in 1976. Kentucky’s last three-game home skid came in the 1966-67 season.
Tre Mitchell returned from a back injury and had five points and six rebounds in 21 minutes before leaving in the second half with a shoulder injury. Reed Sheppard added 13 points for the Wildcats and Justin Edwards had 12.
Matthew Murrell and Jaemyn Brakefield each scored 16 points for the Rebels (18-6, 5-6), who shot 38% and have lost five of eight.
ILLINOIS STATE 80, NO. 23 INDIANA STATE 67
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) — Johnny Kinziger scored a career-high 31 points and Illinois State beat Indiana State in the Sycamores’ first outing as a ranked team since Larry Bird led them to the national title game 45 years ago.
Kinziger went 10 of 12 from the field and more than doubled his previous career best of 14 points. Myles Foster had 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Redbirds (12-14, 6-9 Missouri Valley Conference), who stopped a three-game skid and won for just the fourth time since Dec. 21.
Indiana State’s nine-game winning streak was snapped. The Sycamores had surged into the rankings thanks in part to an offense that came in ranking fifth nationally at 85.6 points per game, but they had a poor shooting night against the Redbirds, missing their first 16 3-point attempts and finishing 8 of 38 from beyond the arc.
Julian Larry scored 20 points for Indiana State (24-3, 13-2), which lost leading rebounder Jayson Kent to an injury with 18:35 left in the game.
